Data: 29/06/2016 (quarta feira)
Hora: 13:30 h
Local: C-119 ou C_116 (a ser divulgado mais tarde)

Título: Solitons in Quadratic Media

Resumo: Propagation of optical pulses in \xi^2 media (quadratic media) leads to systems of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with quadratic nonlinearities. We investigate the properties (existence, non-existence, stability) of solitonic structures arising in quadratic media.

This is a joint work with Mathieu Colin and Laurent Di Menza.

2) Palestrante: Denis Serre (ENS Lyon)

Data: 29/06/2016 (quarta feira)
Hora: 15:00 h
Local: C-116

Título: On a (very) degenerate elliptic boundary-value problem

Resumo: Our BVP has several interpretations, among which the non-parametric minimal surfaces in negative curvature, or the Riemann problem for gas dynamics. An obvious necessary condition for existence is the convexity of the domain D. We show here that it is also a sufficient condition; the key estimate involves the Hilbert distance in D!
